More and more development is done online. And more and more online activities are done on a mobile device. It is predicted that mobile internet usage will overtake desktop in 2015. The bottom line is that you should be spending more and more of your time and budget on digital marketing. With that in mind, here are 10 tips to keep in mind as you develop your digital strategy.
- Take the time to say “Thank you.” An email or a personal tweet is the thank you note of the “old days.”
- Ask for exactly what you need. If you need a monthly commitment, ask for that.
- Don’t waste your time chasing “Likes” or “follows.” Content is king and how many people are engaging you is what matters.
- Respond to emails and social media in a personal way. Build relationships for the long haul.
- Mobile friendly content is the only way to go. If your website and emails are not mobile responsive, get them updated ASAP!
- Don’t limit your messaging to your neighborhood. New tech puts local, regional and even international fundraising within reach.
- Tweets should be slightly provocative. Remember, you want to begin a conversation. It’s a dinner party, not a megaphone.
- Use multiple channels. There are several good choices out there. Identify where your supporters are and use those channels
- Don’t over do it on your email. Keep them short and succinct with no more than 1 or 2 medium images.
- Do the heavy lifting of messaging on your website. Use email and social media to engage people and bring them to your website for more.
